That's the thing. Everything has to start somewhere and Mirai Nikki is really popular so quite a bit of people are bound to know about the term.

it's popular but not everyone knows. people who are recently getting into anime don't know about it.

Yes but not everyone can know about anything right, especially a term that was formed recently. Mirai Nikki came out only in 2011.
Tsundere's have appeared in anime in the 80's(Urusei yatsura), and the 90's(Neon Genesis Evangelion), so that's a lot of time for anime viewers to get to know about them.

there might have been anime but not popular enough that everyone knows. i googled but i couldn't get years

You haven't searched properly then. It's well known that Asuka from NGE is a main reason why Tsunderes became a popular trope.
