Yeah, and they are extremely popular in Japan, yes, and even there, the sales figure decrease every season. The monogatari series is probably one of the few exceptions, in that even though its sales are also declining, its not at the same rate as other series.

Then, I guess I'll wait for a few weeks after it resumes and start reading. I'm already planning to start Berserk and Kingdom manga in January, during my travel from and to the University.

It apparently went bankrupt and that apparently caused Masao Maruyama to go on his own and form MAPPA, which has many of the core staff from Madhouse. They made stuff like Zankou no Terror, Yuri!! on Ice.
I think this type of popularity has a lot to do with the way the story is structured. If it is written in a way that keeps the reader interested in the long run (rather then going for immediate hype events) it will fare better with hiatuses. Though I see what you mean, for sure. Also, my guess is that Monogatari is as popular as ever is because they sort of design it to be popular, inserting elements that will make people excited, making all those gif-worthy scenes, right amount of fanservice and so on. It is very different from how normal shonen shows are adopted, I believe.

I wonna read Berserk too one day =) The old anime adaptation is supposed to be pretty good too. If you don't plan to watch it, at least check out "Forces" OST, I like it a lot.

Mappa was found in 2011 though, so Madhouse has probably recovered since then. It is pretty normal for studios to give birth to new independent productions, I wouldn't be too worried about that.

Off topic: I am reading a new One Punch man chapter right now. It is 136 pages long o.o Murata...

i see. I will eventually check out the Monogatari series, though. Probably when the next adaptation gets announced. The interesting thing is that like it's released in various experimental ways. As TV anime, OVA's, ONA's, films. And all of them are canon. That's praiseworthy of Shaft.

I'll check it out, probably. It's just that it's difficult for me to move on to anime from a manga than the other way around, because when it's a manga, even though you've already watched it, you can just speed through it and can the point and recollect everything, but in the anime, it's not like that.

Whoa, I mean they have. They've had some incredible mainstream success, like with No game no life, Kiseijuu, Overlord, One Punch Man, etc, but each year, the number of shows they've made has decreased, and after One Punch Man, they have't had a big success. And, that was released in Fall 2015.

Whoa. Have you read Eyeshield 21?

That is their main project and they are being serious about making it good =) I want to watch it too one day. Also I feel like interspersing OVAs and movies into huge franchises like Monogatari makes for healthier work environment. That way they don't have to dread the deadlines imposed by the broadcasters quite as much.

I know right : D That is why I want to first watch the older anime and then read the manga. I might end up reading the manga first anyways, considering how I haven't watched a single episode of anything in about 4 months now ._.

I remember listening to podcasts back in ~2012 and people were talking about Madhouse being in financial trouble, lacking successful projects, being a "once great" studio =) Suppose that is just how they roll.

Nope, haven't yet. I'd love to, Murata's drawings are a treat ^^/

Me too. It's unfortunate that the new anime looks like dogshit. I would have watched the old anime and this one and continued reading the manga. Bummer.

Well, after 2012, they came back really strongly. And, then after 2015, welp, nothing.

Its anime adaptation is crapped on by fans too, unfortunately.

I am a little anxious about the look of the new Berserk season as well. Looks too 3d heavy. As for Eyeshield 21 - since all I know about it is that the manga is drawn by Murata I never even considered watching the anime version xD I have no clue what the story is about and such, only interested in seeing the great action panels.

Don't bother. It's really bad. It's just uncanny valley galore.
Funny thing is the first time I've heard heard of Eyeshield was like last month. Even funnier, September was when I first heard of Jojo.

Really? : D Eyeshield 21 isn't that popular, so it is reasonable. I've heard the name long time ago, but I only made a mental note of it when I got into OPM's fandom. Hardcore Murata's fans like to compare his character designs in both these manga. JoJo though, it is such a meme generator, I dunno how you dodged all the references that float around the net : D

By the way, how do you find new One Piece episodes? I used to say the story is about to get better, what do you say, did I lie?..  Angel

I honestly don't know. Probably because I didn't follow facebook pages back then, or youtube channels plus whenever i visited mal it was nowhere to be found. Plus, no one here talks about it.

I don't know. The plot moves at such a slow pace that a sense of progression always seems minimal.
Spoiler :
Right now, Brooke is about to face off against Big Mom, Pedro is about to face off against some guy who as a grudge against him, Luffy is caught in a cell, and Reijuu looks like she got hurt(shot) by someone.

Hmm, I see :/

Well, stuff happens though, right? There are like five-six hanging plot lines (if you count Sanji's and Pudding's circumstances as well), some of them have to go somewhere. I thought the story would have went further than that by now though, considering how long ago the Luffy & Sanji 'fight' was o_O

It's exactly one chapter per episode. I guess that's why it seems like that for you(and for me of course). This model has become really archaic, having watched seasonal shounen anime adapting 2+chapters per ep with consistent animation and pacing.
But, the manga looks like it's going at a break-neck speed, right?
