There might be more to the story than what it appears. However, though, in any case, the beating, obviously, is an over-reaction.

True, but, especially a killing must have come from something more than what was said in the story.  But, of course, no crap, it's an overreaction.

I don't want to get into religious bigotry or judge people.  However, though, the Hindu religion is often cynical of those who break the caste system by being "too nice".  Nonetheless, I'm sure it was extremists who were overreacting.  Anyway, the extremists wouldn't represent the whole religion.  Also, there are equivalents in other lands, though not Hindu.    For instance, a struggle for rights occurred in many western lands - often facing deadly opposition - and still, there's often a harsh struggle.
